Having to live in the twentieth century, most of our lives revolve around technology and media. One of the obvious examples is the television where the movie industry takes place. Nowadays, people regardless or the age and gender are known to love movies and everything that the movie industry offers. Once a movie hit the screen, people starts talking about it, especially for the younger audience. Here I will discuss how media especially Movies and TV series really does affect the trends in fashion especially for the younger audience.

For those fashionista that loves to dress in trend and updated, movies such as “Clueless” and “Mean Girls” is familiar. People that do not follow fashion might perceive those movies as normal movies staring a group of girls and their teenage problems. But looking at the fashion aspect, they are some of the movies that set trends. The clothing and looks are iconic and are heavily followed by fashionista.

Here I will discuss how the iconic movie “Clueless” and the recent TV Series “Scream Queens” became such trend in the world of fashion.

Clueless

The movie is an old iconic movie released in 1995. The movie basically is about a shallow, rich and socially successful girl named Cher who lives in Beverly Hills. The movie is iconic for its iconic style and costume. The style is very preppy. The most iconic costume of all from this movie is the yellow plaid schoolgirl-matching outfit.

Even though the movie is over 2 decade old, their fashion style is still followed by people and constantly popping out as trend now and then. They are even used as inspiration for party costumes at times.

For more looks, here is a glimpse of all Cher (leading role) fashion outfit in 60 second.

The famous singer, Iggy Izelea even uses the movie Clueless as inspiration for her music video “Fancy”. In Iggy’s music video, she wore the classic and iconic yellow plaid schoolgirl outfit. Basically her entire video resembles the movie.

Scream Queens

Similarly to Clueless, another recent trend came from a TV series called “Scream Queens”. The series is about a group of girls starring Chanel Oberlin as the leading role. Although both Clueless and Scream Queens are known for their beautiful costumes, unlike Clueless, Scream Queens is about a college sorority that has a twist of thriller/horror and comedy in it.

The sorority is lead by a girl named Chanel and they are known for dressing in a certain way, that is very glamorous and out there. The costume became such a hit that a report by WGSN was made. It shows the key looks and the style of the iconic fashion look of the series. The clothing that is used for the costumes are mostly high end brands mixed with other brands such as Ted Baker, Roberto Cavali, Marchesa, etc.

As what is written by WGSN, scream Queens iconic style is a modern intake of the movie Clueless. For Scream Queens fashion, its all about the sugary pastel colours, cropped fuzzy knits, mini dresses, plush fur coats, and skater skirts.

Here is a clip talking about the fashion costume, with Scream Queens stylist Lou Eyrich.

With fashion being very affected by the media such as movies and TV series, I think now producers are paying more attention to the costume and fashion aspect of the movies. People are not only looking at how the story goes or the actors or actresses are but also how they dress. This proves that media do affect heavily on the fashion world. I think it is good that both industries can be merged together creating a greater interest in fashion for more people.
